How to annoy me: No public transit to the airport

I live less than 10 miles from Sacramento International Airport and I'm currently planning an 11 day vacation.  To get myself to the airport, my choices are:

  1. Drive and pay $7 a day for the Economy lot, or more for the other lots.  Total cost: $77.
  2. Call a cab at about $25 each way and hope it shows up at 5:00 AM when I need to leave.  Total cost: About $50.
  3. Use a shuttle instead of a cab.  At $11 per person, total round trip cost is $44.

The only public transportation at all to the Sacramento airport is provided by Yolo (NOT Sacramento) County from downtown Sacramento.  I'm glad someone is doing something, but this doesn't help me.

Why in the world can't I buy a $2 bus ticket that gets me to the airport?  I live closer to the Sacramento airport than almost everyone else in the city, and these are my choices?  Really annoying.

Sacramento streetcar feasibility study completed

Central City Opinion and Living in Urban Sac both wrote that a Sacramento/West Sacramento Streetcar Feasibility study has been completed.  The initial plan only goes to 15th Street and I think 19th would be better, but that's a minor quibble.  I've been a fan of this idea for a few years now, and I still think streetcars would be absolutely great for the city.  They take an element of unpredictability out of public transit.  Unlike buses, there's no need to worry about routes changing or getting on the wrong car, and the fact that they're on a track means you always know exactly where to catch them.  If you need to move around downtown, it's much easier to jump on a streetcar than schlep to the parking garage and drive ten blocks to find a spot in some other garage.

The streetcar study will be discussed at the May 22 Sacramento City Council meeting.  I'll be out of state, but I'd strongly encourage anyone reading this post to attend and lend their support.  I plan to write my City Council Member to tell him how much I like the idea.
